The latest round of Victoria’s Emergency Services Equipment Program (VESEP) funding marks a significant milestone for Wangaratta’s CFA brigades and the broader community.
With $443,135 allocated across the rural city, this investment will strengthen local firefighting capacity and ensure our volunteers have the facilities and equipment they need to protect local lives and property.
The standout recipient, South Wangaratta CFA, secured $225,000 toward a major expansion of its Shanley Street station, adding toilets, changerooms, a cleaning room and an extra vehicle bay.
This upgrade is more than bricks and mortar; it’s about giving one of our busiest brigades the space and resources to respond effectively when disaster strikes.
Eldorado CFA will also benefit, receiving $145,833 for a new ultralight tanker, vital for rapid response in the national park area.
This funding come amid the furore around the Victorian Government’s Emergency Services and Volunteers Fund, although welcome, it won't erase the pain for many the new tax has caused.
Under VESEP’s model, every dollar raised locally is matched two-to-one by the state, a partnership that underscores the power of community action.
The efforts of the local volunteers and community members who fundraise to make these projects possible highlights our community’s commitment to supporting our emergency services.
From major station upgrades to smaller grants, every dollar counts and is a testament to those who reach into their own pockets to support those who protect us, especially in the fire season.
To our CFA volunteers and supporters: thank you, your dedication ensures that when the call comes, Wangaratta is ready.
