The 27-year-old will face court after alleged speeding of almost double the speed limit

A Benalla man has been allegedly caught driving at almost double the speed limit down Mason Street last Sunday night.

A Wangaratta police spokesperson said Wangaratta Highway Patrol members detected the Holden commodore sedan about 11:20pm going at 114km/h within a 60km/h speed limit.

The car was intercepted and impounded for 30 days at a fee of $2000.

The 27-year-old male driver from Benalla was charged and is set to face Wangaratta Magistrates’ Court on a later date.
