WANGARATTA Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating after a teenage boy was stabbed in Wangaratta early Friday morning.

A Victoria Police spokesperson said it is believed two male victims were walking along White Street when they were approached by a group of unknown offenders about 2.20am.

A 17-year-old Newport boy was stabbed and airlifted to hospital with life threatening injuries.

An 18-year-old Wangaratta man was assaulted and taken to hospital.

White Street, between Burke Street and Thomson Street, remained cordoned off this morning as detectives continued their ongoing investigations.

Detectives are keen to speak to any witnesses and anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
