Victoria Police have shared their first major development into the investigation and search for alleged cop killer Dezi Freeman, arresting two people from a Porepunkah address Thursday night.
A Victoria Police spokesperson sad Fugitive Squad detectives, along with Special Operations Group members, attended a Porepunkah address about 8.40pm.
A 42-year-old woman and 15-year-old boy were arrested and taken into custody.
“The Porepunkah pair were interviewed and released pending further enquiries,” the spokesperson said.
The arrests form part of the ongoing investigation into the deaths of Wangaratta-stationed police Detective Leading Senior Constable Neal Thompson and Senior Constable Vadim De Waart, who were killed in the line of duty.
The pair were part of a 10-member team conducting a search warrant at Freeman’s Rayner Track property at 10:30am Tuesday.
The officers were at the property as part of an investigation by the sexual offences and child abuse investigation teams.
Police have released details of the third officer who was shot in the lower body and remained in hospital on Friday.
A 56-year-old male Detective Leading Senior Constable underwent surgery on Wednesday and police say it would take some time to recover from his injuries.
There is still yet to be any confirmed sightings of Freeman, also known as Desmond Filby, and the mass search remains ongoing.
Victoria Police urge the public in and around the Porepunkah are to remain vigilant and report any sightings or suspicious behaviour by calling Triple Zero (000).
Text messages and a VicEmergency alert was sent to residents surrounding the Beechworth, Wangaratta and greater Alpine Shire areas on Thursday night, recommending people to avoid travelling to the Porepunkah area.
Detectives from Crime Command, including the Homicide Squad and Fugitive Squad, are investigating the incident.
