Scouts from the 1st Yarrunga Scout Group in Wangaratta enjoyed a group camp at Beechworth from 31 October to 2 November.

The adventure began for the older Scouts with a demanding Friday evening hike.

Carrying their full packs, they navigated the path from Woolshed Falls all the way up to the Beechworth Scout Hall.

Preparing their own dinner along the way the hike was tough, but they learned how important it is to stick together and encourage everyone, especially when the trail got difficult and a storm threatened to close in around them.

Reaching the Beechworth Scout Hall they set up camp just before nightfall.

Joining the Scouts on Saturday morning the younger Joey and Cub Scouts worked together to set up their tents, before the real excitement began.

With the help of the Scouts Vertical Team the youth members all had the opportunity to try abseiling in the Beechworth Gorge.

After a rewarding day the youth members returned to camp to prepare their evening meal and enjoy a movie.

A good night’s sleep awaited and, in the morning, breakfast was followed by group games and campsite pack up.

Many memories were made and fears conquered.

“We are so proud of all of the Scouts on this camp, especially the older members," the group leaders said.

“They went above and beyond taking the younger ones under their wings to encourage and support them when they needed it.

“We cannot wait for the next adventure.”
