Momentum’s building for Rovers

WANGARATTA Rovers will be hoping to restart their season with a bang against North Albury on Saturday at Bunton Park.

The Hawks were building momentum before the bye after an ultra–impressive 38 point win over the much improved Corowa–Rutherglen.

Lukas Webb is set to return to the fold, while the Hawks will also gain GWS VFL captain Ryan Hebron for a game.

"It's going to be exciting to get both Lukas Webb and Ryan Hebron back into the team," Wangaratta Rovers football operations manager Barry Sullivan said.

"Ryan signed with us as his home side so he'll play this weekend because GWS don't play this weekend.

"He can play either end of the ground so we'll see what the coaches have in stock for him."

Sullivan believes the Corowa–Rutherglen victory will help the side build momentum.

"It was a really pleasing win," he said.

"Corowa–Rutherglen are a strong side, they only lost to Yarrawonga by a kick in the final seconds so to be down by a goal at half–time and to come back strong in the second half was really good.

"We know how tough it is to make the top five let alone the top three so now that we've got our noses in there we want to secure that spot."

North Albury are showing signs of improvement, especially after grabbing their first win since 2019 against Wodonga Raiders on May 7.

"They're definitely showing some improvement and they've got a bit of confidence in their game at the moment," Sullivan said.

"They probably don't bat as deep as we do though which will hopefully give us the upper hand."

Tomorrow's game begins at 2pm.
