A1: Wangaratta finished its season on a high with a big win over Benalla on Friday evening.
After an even start, Wangaratta began to pull away and were never headed as the margin continued to grow throughout the night.
Ethan Fruend, Maurie Braden, Gary Fenlon, and Brian Challman went from (5-all) to finish the night with an astonishing (40-7) win.
Trevor Selwood, Laurie McDonald, Mark Allan, and Leon Quartermain were the other winning rink (23-20), while Chris Randell (20-21) and Phil Davern (22-23) both went down on the last end of play.
Final scores: Wang 14 pts 105 shots def Benalla 4 pts 71 shots.
B1: Wangaratta had a day to forget on the tricky carpet at Moyhu on Saturday.
Ken Essenhigh, Lance Jenkin, Neil Jensen, and Gary Lidgerwood were Wangaratta’s best going down to Charlie Thompson (15-25).
Richie Allan’s rink went down to Ian Ritchie (5-32) and Keith Izard lost to Joe Northey (8-34).
Final scores: Wang 0 pts 28 shots lost to Moyhu 14 pts 91 shots.
Finals next week:
B1 will play in an elimination final against Moira at Myrtleford with the winner to face the loser of Moyhu and St James, also being held at Myrtleford.
B3 will play Dederang in a qualifying final at Wodonga on Saturday with the winner going through to the grand final and the loser to face the winner of the Lavington v Chiltern clash.
Wangaratta will host both A3 finals on Saturday with Moira and Lavington playing the qualifying final and Beechworth and Tungamah playing to stay alive in the elimination final.
