A1: Wangaratta Hyundai A1 bounced back from last week’s loss to record a strong win at home against Myrtleford on Saturday.

The win sets up an important match at Lavington next week, with the winner claiming a place in the top four at the halfway point of the season.

Maurie Braden, Rho Smith, Peter Selwood and Graeme Smith were never headed in their match as they recorded a comfortable 24-17 win, while Phil Davern, Greg Braden, Gary Fenlon and Norm Bussell were always in control as they posted a 20-16 win.

Trevor Selwood, Aaron Braden, Jan Hermassoo and Laurie McDonald held sway for the majority of the match to win their rink 21-16 and Adrian Pantling’s rink did well to hold the margin to just six shots (17-23) against a flawless display by Myrtleford skipper Peta Mattys.

Final scores: Wangaratta 16 pts 82 shots def Myrtleford 2 pts 71 shots.

Next week Wang travel to Lavington.

A4: Wangaratta Niko’s Butchery A4 maintained third spot on the ladder after an away win at Rutherglen on Saturday.

Terry Corrigan, Ric Chivers, John Keen and Tyson Chivers provided the killer blow for the visitors as they saluted 34-7, while Terry Johnson, Richard Hermassoo, Barb McDonald and Leon Quartermain continued their recent good form to win 26-14.

Gary King’s rink lost a close game (19-22) and Tom Morrow’s rink went down 12-18.

Final scores: Wangaratta 14 pts 91 shots def Rutherglen 4 pts 61 shots.

Wang will host Mansfield next week.

A5: Wang Luminosity A5 had a good away win on the carpet at Benalla on Saturday.

Ken Essenhigh, Heather Coyle, Neil Jensen and Bobby McCalman showed the visitors the way with a strong 23-13 win.

Chris Bell, Lola Clarke, Barry Watt and Kevin Lenehan went down by the barest of margins (19-20), and Keith Izard’s rink also lost narrowly, 16-20.

Final scores: Wangaratta 10 pts 58 shots def Benalla 4 pts 53 shots.

Wang will host Milawa next week.

B2: For the third week running, Wang WinSec B2 just failed to grab the points, this time at home to Club Mulwala on Saturday.

Neil Freid, Norm Baker, Giz Tahin and Deb Savage had a strong win 20-13, as did Mick Lennane, Bruce Desmond, Bob Edwards and Di Worthington (21-16), but a heavy loss to John Knight’s rink (17-34) saw the hosts fall short by five shots overall.

Final scores: Wang 4 pts 58 shots lost to Club Mulwala 10 pts 63 shots.

Wangaratta travels to Myrtleford next week.
