A1: WANGARATTA kept its faint finals hopes alive with a comfortable win at home against Rutherglen on Saturday.
Chris Randell, Jodie Fruend, Paul King, and Graeme Smith were the pick of the rinks with a big win over Chris Langdon’s side (28-13), while Trevor Selwood, Laurie McDonald, Mark Allan, and Leon Quartermain won by five (18-13) with the same margin going to Maurie Braden, Ethan Fruend, Jan Hermassoo, and Brian Challman (22-17).
Phil Davern went down (16-20).
Final scores: Wang 16 pts 84 shots def Rutherglen 2 pts 63 shots.
Fifth placed Wangaratta will travel to fourth placed Corowa RSL next week in a must win game if they are to keep any chance of finals alive.
A3: Wangaratta lost touch with the final four after an all-rinks loss at home against ladder leader Lavington on Saturday.
Gary Fenlon (17-20), Gary Chambers (21-27), Richard Hermassoo (16-27) and Peter Selwood (13-31) all went down.
The loss puts Wangaratta a game and a half outside the top four with only two games to play due to a bye in the final round.
Final scores: Wang 0 pts 67 shots lost to Lavington 18 pts 105 shots.
Milawa had a Bye.
Wangaratta will travel to Moira and Milawa host Bright next week.
B1: Wangaratta flexed its muscles against bottom side Rutherglen at Wang on Saturday.
Ken Essenhigh, Lance Jenkin, Neil Jensen, and Gary Lidgerwood (29-11), Keith Izard, Gerald Brown, Mick Montgomery, and Gayle King (28-15), as well as Richie Allan, Klaus Kazenwadel, Terry Johnson, and Steve Bihun (25-13) all had big wins in a comfortable victory.
Final scores: Wang 14 pts 82 shots def Rutherglen 0 pts 39 shots.
Moyhu 2 pts 42 shots lost to St James 12 pts 61 shots.
Wangaratta travel to Bright next week and Moyhu will host Moira.
B3: Wangaratta had a strong win at home against Corowa RSL on Saturday.
Graeme Norman, Lyn Sier, John Knight, and Bob Edwards (26-10) and Brian Godfrey, Ann Keen, Bruce Desmond, and Thelma Stones (23-13) were both untroubled winning by big margins.
Heather Coyle, Susan Bull, Michael Howard, and John Keen (17 All) had to settle for a draw.
