A1: WANGARATTA stormed home over the closing stages of the match to force a tie with visitors Rutherglen on Saturday.
Seemingly down and out Wangaratta trailed the visitors by 20 shots with only 10 ends to play across the four rinks.
First to finish, Chris Randell’s rink were well down all afternoon but scored a five on their last end to spark the revival (13-23), while Phil Davern, Mark Allan, Steve English and Richard Hermassoo scored the last 10 shots including a count of seven on their last end on their way to a big rink win (27-11).
Maurie Braden, Greg Braden, Rho Smith and Tyson Chivers gave up a (12-6) lead to trail (12-19) before scoring eight unanswered shots to win (20-19).
Trevor Selwood, Greg McDonald, Jan Hermassoo and Leon Quartermain were the last to finish with Wangaratta holding a three shot lead overall, and everything looked comfortable for the home side when Quartermain put his two bowls on the jack.
Rutherglen however forced the jack to the back of the rink and held four shots before Selwood managed to reduce the count to three with his last bowl and ensure the tie.
Final scores: Wangaratta 9 pts 75 tied with Rutherglen 9 pts 75 shots.
Next week Wangaratta will host Corowa RSL.
A4: Wangaratta fell short when they faced one of the A4 Division favourites in Club Mulwala at Mulwala on Saturday.
Neville Jones, Ric Chivers, Michael Howard and Klaus Kazenwadel were the only winning rink for Wangaratta posting a five shot victory (20-15).
Gary King (15-23), Richie Allan (14-19 and Peter Selwood’s rink (18-29) all came up short.
Final scores: Wangaratta 2 pts 67 shots lost to Club Mulwala 16 pts 87 shots.
Wangaratta will travel to Corowa RSL next week.
A5: Wangaratta posted its first win for the season at Chiltern on Saturday.
Graeme Norman, Sussan Singleton, Susan Bull and Tiger Bussell led the way for the visitors with a comfortable (19-9) win, while Ken Essenhigh, John Knight, Graeme Bull and Ryan Mullavey snuck home (23-21).
Lyn Kahlefeldt’s rink lost by the barest of margins (20-21).
Final scores: Wangaratta 12 pts 62 def Chiltern 2 pts 51 shots.
In other local games Milawa 4 pts 58 shots were defeated at home by Dederang 10 pts 60 shots.
Wangaratta will travel to Yackandandah next week and Milawa travel to Commercial Club.
B1: Wangaratta were too good for visitors Tungamah on Saturday.
Barry Watt, Lyn Sier, John Keen and Kevin Lenehan were never threatened on the way to an impressive (28-12) win.
Lance Jenkin, Ann Keen, Lorna Nankervis and Bruce Desmond also won (18-14) while Neil Reid’s rink went down (15-19).
