Despite the rain, the races at Wangaratta Turf Club were held to the delight of punters and casual racegoers alike on Tuesday.
While the weather was far from perfect, with occasional showers sending crowds fleeing in search of shelter, the packed seven-race card thrilled those in attendance, no matter if you had money on or not.
In race one, the 1300m A1 Tyrepower Wangaratta Maiden Plate was taken out by Kilmore-trained Please Me Do ($3.60), ridden by Wangaratta jockey Hannah Le Blanc, less than half a length from Brilliant Beagle ($2.10) and John and Chris Ledger’s Palladium ($7.30).
The Ledgers had a win in race two, which saw Glamour Man ($5.30) storm home by three and a half lengths ahead of Phantom’s Chase ($2.20) and You Said What (NTD).
Favourite pick Noble Steed ($1.60) was first past the post in race three, accounting for Mighty Mac ($3) and Taajwar (NTD).
Andrew Dale had a massive result in race four, coming in first and third in the 2000m BM52 handicap.
Parabellum ($8.80) rewarded backers after coming home in 2:07.58, hammering Dashing Donkey ($1.80) and the Dale-trained New Zealand runner Crusheen Lass ($2.80) by four and a half lengths.
In the first race after the Melbourne Cup had been run at Flemington, it was O’reg ($2.50) from Wangaratta’s John Fitzgerald who saluted in the 1170m handicap, ahead of Wangaratta-trained horse Magnea ($2.10) from Matthew Hahne.
Andrew Dale would finish the day’s races strongly, picking up a placing in race six with Densetsu ($2.10) before Jingu Express ($1.90) would take the win in race seven.
