New Moyhu A grade coach Nat Kidd is making herself at home back at the club which started it all.
Named to the top job at Hopperland back in October, Kidd returns to the green and gold with experience as a player and coach in the league, and is eager to help the Hoppers climb back up the ladder.
Kidd said she was overjoyed to return to the club she made her debut for in the early days of her career and continue the family connection with the Hoppers.
“I’ve coached out there in the past when Geoff Hogan was president, my name got thrown around, they approached me [for the role],” she said.
“I played out there when I was younger, I grew up out at Moyhu, so I thought why not, I’ll give it another crack.
“My mum still lives out there, my son plays, there are lots of people who I used to play with and their kids are now playing.
“It’s actually quite lovely to see the families and the generations come through.”
Moyhu FNC president Geoff Hogan said Kidd was a natural fit the role.
“As a club we are very excited to welcome Nat back to the club as a former player and coach, with her extensive experience across the fitness industry as well as her record as a very experienced and passionate coach,” he said.
“We look forward to seeing the results from her coaching as well as the further development of all of our netball players and coaches.”
Kidd has been guiding not only the senior netballers, but the club as a whole through preseason, with their pre-Christmas efforts starting with combined fitness sessions with footballers and netballers.
She said the goal was to bring the club closer together and create a united but fun atmosphere which would carry the whole club through 2026.
“Fitness is my thing, I guess, I’ve been in the fitness industry for many years,” she said.
“It was more to get together and have some fun.
“We invited the footy players – I think the first one [session] was their trip away so they couldn’t make it – but between myself and Darren Bell, the senior coach, and Geoff Hogan, we really want to make it a successful club this year.
“As a club, genuinely, we just want to get together, get among it, have a good time, and try and get some success.
“It’s not just one team, it’s a whole club that makes it, all the volunteers.
“I’m really finding Moyhu is such a great club like that, they thrive on their volunteers, they encourage, it’s positive, it’s a really good atmosphere out there.”
On the netball front, while Kidd acknowledged there would be some different players fronting up in A grade in 2026, the squad would feature talent and some up-and-coming stars.
“We’ve copped a couple of hits, a couple of girls have left to go into the O&M which is great for the young girls going and getting that experience, it’s fantastic, I encourage that,” she said.
“It’s given a chance for a lot of the younger girls to come up and have a go.
“We’ve got some really good height in the teams and we’ve got a good mix.
“We’ve still got Georgia Allen, we’ve got Jacqui Lake, there are quite experienced netballers.
“We’ve got that good mix with the young girls coming though.
“We haven’t selected sides, we’ve just got the senior squad at the moment and we’re just seeing how that goes over preseason and what that looks like.”
