Wangaratta Sports and Aquatic Centre (WSAC) will be swamped with an army of swimmers and their families and support staff for this weekend's Wangaratta and Wodonga City Long Course Championships.
Up to 500 people including up to 350 swimmers are expected each day for this two-day swim event on Saturday, 22 November and Sunday, 23 November.
Wangaratta Amateur Swimming Club president Melissa Jackson said there will be clubs from across the state competing, including a number from Melbourne.
"Wangaratta Amateur will have 40 swimmers competing over the two day event," Jackson said.
"We are very privileged that we have a world class pool and the support of WSAC to be able to co-host his event with Wodonga city.
"Our swimmers will participate for different reasons, some looking at achieving state or country times, along with trying to achieve a personal best."
Jackson said swimming is a great sport, it builds resistance and provides accountability for swimmers.
"Some of the seniors and intermediate swimmers swim several days a week, getting up at 5am to swim before school and then again after school," she said.
"Their commitment to their training is to be commended.
"People may see the swimming as individual, but we can see within our club the support the swimmers give each other, during times of achievement and times of not achieving what they had set out for.
"As president of the club I have seen the growth of our swimmers, as a club we are proud of all of them.
"We are looking forward to a great weekend of swimming and also welcome any spectators to attend."
Due to the championships the WSAC outdoor pool will be closed to the public on Saturday, 22 and Sunday, 23 November.
Leon Newton, WSAC precinct manager said the outdoor will be opened specifically to accommodate this event, as regular weekend hours for the outdoor pool don’t begin until 1 December.
"This means no public access is being impacted by the event," he said.
"Last weekend, WSAC welcomed nearly 9000 visitors for the basketball tournament, reinforcing its reputation as a facility that can accommodate significant community and sporting events while delivering a positive experience for all attendees."
The centre and carpark is expected to busier than normal, so if you're visiting during this time, council suggests you please allow extra time.
The public is welcome to attend to watch the competition over the weekend.
WSAC cafe will be open for food and refreshments and on Sunday bacon and egg rolls and a barbecue lunch will be available.
