Saturday’s fourth round of the Wangaratta Lawn Tennis, Croquet and Pickleball Club’s senior aggregate tennis competition was one of the tightest clashes so far this season, with only microscopic margins separating players in each of the sections.

In section one, Mark Brown saluted with his 21-13, only marginally ahead Ryan Patterson (19-15) and Kevin Callahan (18-16).

Riley Minns had a tough day, finishing last on 10-24.

Section two saw Brian Scobie (23-18) hold off Frank Harris (22-19) for the narrowest of victories, while Ashley Weston (20-21) and Mandy Allen (17-24) weren’t too far behind.

In section three, John Mansfield was far too good, securing top billing with his 24-18, but the rest of the section was a closer contest.

Mike Lairson and Colin Mackay split the silver, each recording 21-20m while Andrew Cope and Thomas McDonald couldn’t be separated on 19-23.

Victor Lairson did enough to take out section four with his 24-17, while Patrick Oudin (20-21) came in second.

Pat Flynn and Mark Gorman recorded identical scores, rounding out the section with their 19-22.

In section five, it was a tie at the top, with Sartaj Bal and Phil Dryden both coming in with 21-16.

Greg Renner and Alan Busk also mirrored each other with their 19-20, while Carl Cutrona (16-24) brought up the rear.

Peter Curran was best afield in section six with his 23-16, edging out Amy Lairson (23-19) for the top spot thanks to fewer lost games.

Terry Flynn came in with 20-18, while Scott Long (17-21) and Max McAuliffe (14-24) rounded out the group.

There was a bit of a wide berth from top to bottom in section seven, but it was John Shanley who reigned supreme with his 20-11.

James Wilkinson (19-24) and Tony Clarebrough (18-17) were in the conversation, while Sue Piper (16-18) and Mick Keogh (11-24) were adrift.
