Boorhaman (Dale Robinson, Darren Saward, Shirley Fuller, Sally O'Donoghue) came thudding back to earth after they felt the wrath of Wang Hardcourt (Mario Pane, Andy Lucas, Chris Lucas, Di Lucas) after last week’s unexpected loss.
Hardcourt were merciless in their approach and never allowed Boorhaman to settle into the match, as they overpowered their opponents to cruise away to an easy victory.
Hardcourt’s best - Mario Pane and Chris Lucas. Boorhaman's best: Darren Saward and Sally O'Donoghue.
Section B
Section B had three entertaining and enthralling matches last Friday, with a total of five games separating all the matches after each match was tied at three sets all.
Wahnation (Scott Wilson, Kane Palmer, Andrew Palmer, Mareeta Corcoran) held on to get the points against Wahgunyah Deep Heat (Will Bergin, Hugh Bergin, Josh Reid, Kath Blake).
The match started evenly with early sets to both teams, but when Scott and Mareeta finished, Wahnation had a very handy lead.
Not to be outdone, Deep Heat’s Josh and Hugh returned the favour and with two sets remaining, Wahnation held a three-game advantage.
Deep Heat had the better of the last two sets but were unable to real in the five-game deficit and were beaten by two games.
Wahnation’s best: Kane Palmer and Mareeta Corcoran. Deep Heat's best: Josh Reid and Hugh Bergin.
Chiltern (Jake Saville, Mat Vogel, Cilla Hill, Corey Hill) was hoping for their first victory of the season, as was Corowa (Shane Quirk, Joel Bilney, Oscar Rowe, Hudson Bilney).
Corowa were out of the blocks like a 50m freestyle swimmer and made all the early running, but Chiltern weren't deterred and hit back immediately to win the next two sets and to be four games in arrears, and definitely within striking distance.
Jake and Cilla put Chiltern in with a chance by winning the first set to be completed, but it was the youth and experience of Hudson and Joel Bilney that carried Corowa across the line by three games.
Corowa's best: Hudson Bilney and Oscar Rowe. Chiltern's best: Jake Saville and Cilla Hill.
Wahgunyah Toecutters (Josh Parker, Scott Parker, Wayne Johnstone, Jaxx Johnstone) drew with Wooragee Blue (Dean Bensted, Mark Knoth, Eiylish McRostie, Mick McRostie), three sets and 41 games all.
This match had it all, as the scores indicated how close the match was, with numerous sets being decided in a tie break or 8-6.
Toecutters held a two-game lead heading into the second round of matches.
Each team had their chances in the closing moments of each set to put their side closer to victory, but a few costly errors under pressure by both teams saw the sets shared.
Toecutters were two games to the good but when Wooragee Blue's Dean and Eiylish put their team two games in front it came down to the last set to decide the winner.
Toecutters needed an 8-5 win to take the chocolates while Wooragee needed seven games for the win outright.
It became apparent all the remaining players were aware of the situation and as the points and games started to mount up so did the pressure and excitement of the spectators.
Toecutters’ Scott and Jaxx came to the fore and displayed a steadiness under pressure which allowed them to squeeze past Mark and Mick - to their credit, Mark and Mick fought to the end and almost grabbed that extra game for victory but a few untimely errors cost them in the end and the match ended up a draw.
