The Rural City of Wangaratta is preparing to celebrate the arrival of 2026 with music, fun and fireworks at the Wangaratta Showgrounds on Wednesday, 31 December.
Council says it has worked hard to curate a diverse line-up of live performers from across Australia and our local community, to make the free event the region's highlight of the year.
Performers include Indigenous Outreach Projects, Fanny Lumsden, RIFF and Melbourne Ska Orchestra featuring Nicky Bomba.
Indigenous Outreach Projects will open the night with a performance that celebrates culture and connection.
Their work focuses on engaging young people through music and movement, creating an experience that feels inclusive and welcoming.
Fanny Lumsden will bring her award-winning sound to Wangaratta.
With ARIA, Golden Guitar and AIR Awards to her name, Fanny’s live shows are known for their energy and warmth.
Local performer RIFF has a set that blends rock, pop, country, and funk, with a mix of originals and covers promising something for every taste.
Closing the night is Melbourne Ska Orchestra featuring Nicky Bomba and with a dozen horn players, a rhythm section and multiple vocalists, their big sound will make sure the celebration ends on a high note.
Alongside the music, there will be free family activities throughout the evening, plenty of food and drink options, and two fireworks displays – one at 9pm and another at midnight.
Rural City of Wangaratta Mayor Irene Grant said the event is about creating a space where everyone feels welcome to celebrate together.
"It’s a chance to enjoy great music, share time with family and friends, and start the new year in a positive way," she said.
"Bring a picnic rug, gather your friends and family, and enjoy an evening of entertainment under the stars."
Festivities will begin at the Wangaratta Showgrounds from 5pm and it is free to attend with no ticket or booking required.
The event is smoke, vape and drug-free, with no BYO alcohol, glass or sharps (including cheese knives) and prohibited items removed at security and may not be returned.
Service animals welcome with visible harness.
