As the end of the year draws near, we are all tying up our loose ends and saying goodbye to the year that was.

This is something that rings true for local teacher, Judith Powell, who is closing out 2025 by retiring from teaching after more than 40 years in the classroom, 37 of which were served at Yarrunga Primary School.

In her time there, Judith has seen many changes and challenges, as generations of local families have sat on the carpet, played in the yard and learnt from someone whose heart is truly in her job.

Our primary years are formative, and we all know the difference a good teacher makes in your educational journey.

The teacher who takes the extra time to work through a tricky math problem or who encourages you in PE, the teacher who remembers your birthday or decorates the classroom, it all makes an impact on how you develop and who you grow into.

Judith has been all of the things we need from our educators as they help our youngest community members learn how to be themselves.

So, thank you Judith for your service, commitment and the countless young people who you have nurtured.

We know saying goodbye to the school, families and students will be incredibly difficult for you, but we dare say that might be the mark of a great teacher.

Well done for your extraordinary efforts as an educator, as a community we wish you all the best for retirement and whatever the next chapter holds.
