A driver has died following a single-vehicle crash along Shanley Street, Wangaratta just after 6am Tuesday morning.

Ambulance Victoria was called to the scene at Wangaratta South at around 6:05am, with advanced life support paramedics in attendance.

Police said the driver and sole occupant, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene after their vehicle hit a tree.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
