COROWA-Rutherglen Football Netball Club will be back in action in the O&M next season.
The Roos confirmed their "Roo reset" at a joint press conference with Ovens and Murray FNL chairman David Sinclair on Friday morning, with all senior sides re-entering the league.
Sinclair said the league was extremely pleased to be able to welcome back the Roos to competition.
“Whilst there is still much work to be done, we thank and congratulate their president Graham Hosier, secretary Rowena Black and coach Steve Owen for the work they’ve done across the last 12 months to get the club to a position where this formal announcement can be made,” he said.
“The league has appreciated the support shown towards Corowa-Rutherglen from the other nine member clubs of the competition, and the understanding shown in what was a difficult 12 months for each club to navigate.
“The O&M will now push forward and construct a draw around a 10 team competition that will do away the cumbersome club bye each round."
The club did not field any football sides, and only fielded junior and C grade netball sides in 2023, after being placed in recess following a “perfect storm of events” including major flood damage and a mass player exodus at the end of 2022.
Club president Graham Hosier said the club was thrilled to be able to make the formal decision to re-enter the competition at a board meeting on Thursday night, and they were looking forward to the challenge of rebuilding the club next year.
“Our return to competition will be a challenge, but nothing will be harder than what we have endured this year - not having teams represent our community,” he said.
“We were fortunate enough to field three netball teams in 2023, and it is a huge credit to all the players, volunteers and their families who kept the flame lit for Corowa-Rutherglen; those players have no idea how important their roles have been in ensuring we return as we are.
“The Corowa-Rutherglen community is filled with incredibly dedicated and talented people, both on and off field, and we encourage more to join our club in any capacity they may have.
“We are under no illusions that there is still work to be done, but we are up for the fight.”
Temporary facilities will be in place at John Foord Oval throughout the 2024 season with the club's social area and home changerooms still ravaged after floods.
The club has recently announced the appointment of three-time Toni Wilson medalist Sophie Hanrahan as A grade and under 17s netball coach, while Steve Owen will continue in his position as senior football coach.
Other coaching appointments to date include Ben Talarico as football development coach, Brady Morton as senior assistant coach and Luke Collins as under 18s coach.
