The King Valley Arts Film Club will celebrate the launch of its fourth season with a celebration at the Cheshunt Hall "cinema" on the night of Tuesday, 9 December.
The event will not only be a celebration for existing members, family and friends, but an opportunity for newcomers to come along, enjoy the show and see what it's all about.
The club began four years ago when King Valley Arts received a grant from the Rural City of Wangaratta which helped them purchase a projector and get the local movie theatre up and running.
Since then, more than 60 members have joined up from across the King Valley, travelling from as far away as Myrrhee and Whitlands on the second Tuesday night of the month, every second month, to enjoy a cinema experience together.
Club coordinator Ani Torrance said they've received great feedback from members who were open to a broad range of genres in film, from classics and drama to foreign features and documentaries.
"I love it when members talk about a particular film - even months after it was screened," she said.
"It feels like a real film club, when people discuss the films, their different perspectives, interpretations and how it made them feel.
"We are getting more and more member requests each season.
"Members also appreciate the space too, the Cheshunt Hall really has become the 'local cinema' and we are all proud of that."
Ani said the Cheshunt Hall committee had been supportive and encouraging of the film club and helped make it an even more inviting space following recent upgrades to the hall.
Over the years, the club has also upgraded some of its sound equipment and fast-tracked the way they set up for each screening.
The club maintains its membership with the Australian Film Societies Federation - an organisation that provides access to an extensive variety of films - from old classics to recent releases - which means they can source the films at a more affordable, screening-rights price.
Ani said the season launch screening with its end of year celebration, has become a tradition and fun event, with everyone coming together to socialise and share in nibbles and drinks.
She said the club welcomes newcomers to come along to the launch, and members to bring along family and friends to try it out.
"We want it to be an inclusive club, so I appreciate that people might like to come and see what it's like first," she said.
"Membership forms are available on the night if people decide they want to join up."
Membership costs $40 a year which includes six films, screened on the second Tuesday bi-monthly, with the next screening after the launch to be held on Tuesday, 10 February.
Ani said King Valley Arts said a special thank you to council for helping them get the film club underway.
"The King Valley Arts committee is so happy with how the film club is going, it really has become a special part of the valley community that we are so proud of," she said.
"It is a great way to explore the wonderful world of film together."
The fourth season launch and end of year celebration will include a screening of Alfred Hitchcock's North by Northwest, with doors open at 7pm and all are welcome.
