The tennis action at the Wangaratta Lawn Tennis, Croquet and Pickleball Club is heating up even as the sand runs out on the year, with the senior aggregate competition throwing up some great results.

Kevin Callahan bucked the trend in section one, ending Ryan Patterson’s hot streak in dominant fashion.

Callahan recorded 24-8 from his day’s play, well ahead of Patterson and Dave Postlethwaite on 14-18.

Brian Scobie brought up the rear with his 12-20.

In section two, Ashley Weston (23-16) managed to pip Shane Flynn (22-17) at the post, with just one game separating the pair.

Jason Tan (18-21) wasn’t too far behind the frontrunners, while Frank Harris was three games back on 15-24.

It was a similarly tight tussle in section three, with just one game separating winner Andrew Cope (23-15) and second-placed Mark Gorman (22-16).

Thomas McDonald had a solid day with his 17-21, ahead of John Mansfield (14-24).

In section four, Joel Eulenstein (24-15) held off a legitimate challenge from Maree Sullivan (22-16), but there was a fair gap between them and the rest of the section.

Pat Flynn (17-19) was the next across the line, ahead of Greg Renner (16-23) and Peter Curran (15-21).

There was a tie at the top of section five, with Alan Busk and James Wilkinson deadlocked at 22-17 each.

Carl Cutrona fought hard to finish with 19-20, with Sartaj Bal wrapping it up with his 15-24.

Finally, in section six, Max McAuliffe saluted with his 22-13, with the middle of the pack all bunched up behind him.

John Shanley (19-16), Des Steele (18-18) and Sue Piper (17-22) were all around the mark, with Susie Rudd’s (14-21) closing out another thrilling day of competition.

The WLTCP senior aggregate competition has two more rounds of play before entering the Christmas break.
