Wangaratta's Year 12 students were among almost 50,000 across the state who sat their VCE English written exam on Tuesday.

Wangaratta High School student Kevin Shiju Thomas said he was feeling grateful the longest exam was out of the way first.

"I think I did pretty good," he said.

"I think this year they've done us nicely with the questions for what we have been taught this year and the framework of the questions.

"I'm hoping to go to university for engineering so I still have to focus on my maths and science subjects for the next three weeks."

Fellow student Emily Curran said she was relieved the English exam was over.

"'I found English a bit of a struggle this year, but the exam hasn't been too bad and I'm glad it's over now," she said.

"I've been pretty stressed for the lead up to it, but the exam was better than I thought.

"It went smoothly and it was on the topics I've been practicing."

Emily is looking at agricultural courses to further her education following year 12.

This year, more than 92,000 students will complete at least one VCE examination including written, oral and performance exams.

English is the VCE subject with the most enrolments, with more than 47,000 students sitting the written examination, while more than 3000 students are sitting the English as an Additional Language written examination.

VCE Vocational Major students are also completing their final end of year assessments as they prepare to complete their VCE studies this year.

More than 67,000 students are eligible to complete their VCE in 2025, including almost 11,000 VCE Vocational Major students.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Education, Ben Carroll, congratulated every Victorian student reaching this important milestone.

Throughout the examination period, the VCAA is publishing daily updates at www.vcaa.vic.edu.au that include the examination timetable for the day, key examinations statistics, relevant VCAA contacts for general enquiries and support, and - when required - critical information on any issues that may impact schools or students.

The final examination will take place on 19 November, with students receiving their VCE results on 11 December.
