Local service and community groups have again joined forces to ensure the continuation of the Wangaratta Swap Meet and Show’ n’ Shine, to be staged at the Wangaratta Showgrounds on Sunday, 23 November.

Wangaratta Rod & Custom Club is overseeing site bookings and co-ordination of the event in general, with club president Darren Proctor saying preparations are well in hand for a "bigger and better" event than last year.

"We sort of came in at the last minute last year, only a month out from the event to help, whereas this year we've had the whole year to plan," Mr Proctor said.

"We've also got the entire showgrounds area available, unlike last year when the Great Victorian Bike Ride was using some of the area.

"It's allowed us to provide more sites, which are bigger in size too, so we've got a much larger range of stall holders who've welcomed the option of choosing a suitable site in advance, from the the site map provided at the time of booking."

As you would expect, Mr Proctor said this month's swap meet has a focus on automotive - from antique and collectible car, truck and tractor parts to everything in between.

"I'm sure there will be plenty of bargains, and hopefully those parts you need for projects, which can take years in the making," he said.

Wangaratta Lions Club, which instigated and ran the swap meet for more than 20 years, will be focusing on the catering, serving their delicious all day breakfast and mouth watering variety of foods, and there will also be a range of other food vendors on hand to cater for everyone’s taste.

The Wangaratta Kennel and Obedience Dog Club Inc, Moyhu Lions Club and Wangaratta Table Tennis Club will be assisting with gate control and general duties throughout the day.

The Show’ n' Shine display is again being managed by the Early Holden Club of Wangaratta, with trophies to win open to all categories of vehicles.

"All the vehicles will be on show in the grounds of the Wangaratta Kennel and Obedience Dog Club," Mr Proctor said.

"We're hoping to see more than 50 vehicles, with cars to be parked and on show by 9.30am and trophy presentations at 11am.

"People can enter their cars on the day for $10."

Mr Proctor said it was great to see the collective efforts of all clubs involved keeping alive what has been a mainstay on the city's annual calendar for more than two decades.

"It's an important event and it helps bring people from across the North East and further afield to Wangaratta...some stay overnight which only adds further economic benefit, to the local community," he said.

"It's a great family outing and we're hoping to see thousands of people this year."

Public entry to the swap meet will be from 7am (to 2pm), with $5 per person, children U12 free.
